Chief Hilary Okonkwo of Umuerim Akpim has emerged eze-elect Onugotu II of Okrika Nweke autonomous community in Ahiazu Mbaise LGA.
Announcing the result of the option A 4 plebiscite under strict supervision of the LG Council at the market square, Eke Okwe, the returning officer and the deputy president-general, Mr. Francis Anyanwu who stood in for the president-general, Chief Matthew Agwuocha said he pooled 3,712 votes to defeat his lone rival Mr. Leo Ohakwem who garnered 1,015 votes.
Speaking, the LGA TC Chairman, Dr. Kachi Nwoga represented by the Supervisor Lands, Urban Development, Youth and Sports, Mr. Chijioke Nze commended the community for coming out en masse to choose their traditional ruler as well as fill the vacuum left by late Eze Aloysius Nwokedikwa 6 years ago.
He urged them to co-operate with the local and state goverments on the new Community Governing Council and sustain support to the eze-elect for overwhelm peace and progress.
In his acceptance speech, Eze-elect Okonkwo thanked the people for deeming him fit to led them and assured that he would never let them down.
He promised to carry all along and restore peace to the troubled community for rapid development.
